CHILD'S PLAY

this is a great episode of CSI:NY.
if ya haven't seen it, go & watch it right now on demand...

ok. ya back??? good.

i haven't seen so much emotion from carmine giovinazzo since "run silent, run deep" when he was cryin' over louie bein' beat up by those tanglewood boys.

basically, this is the plot:
danny and a lil boy named ruben are going to the church at 7:30 in the morning to get his bike blessed by the priest. on the way back from said blessing, danny gets a phone call. he hears a gun shot, there is a robbery at the bodega about a mile from the apartment building the two of them live in. danny tells ruben (who has peddled his bike a few feet ahead of danny on the sidewalk) to take the short-cut home. danny sees the kid peddle on toward the alley-way as he calls for back-up. mac, danny, & hawkes process the crime scene. later, at the morgue, while hawkes, danny, & sid go over the live vic's wounds, the body of a lil boy is brought in. unfortunately, he is dead... danny & hawkes are headed out of the morgue, when danny sees the kid on the gurney. he freaks out! hawkes has to escort him out of the morgue. (it's sad) later on, danny has a talk with mac about the kid and he tells him about the bike blessing and all... he feels responsible, feels like he should have taken the kid home before he helped out the vic and his sister in the bodega. lindsay enters, wanting to lend her shoulder for a good cry... danny walks away (loved it!) danny returns to his apartment building and knocks on the kid's door. his mom answers, expecting her son to be with danny, but sees that he's not and starts asking questions. all she wants to know is that her son is ok and where she can find him. danny breaks down again. he tells her that he can't tell her that he's ok. starts to tell her about the robbery/shooting in the street. she falls down crying. danny falls against the wall, crying. (very emotional scene) at the crime lab, mac is trying to piece together the shooting scenerio that the perp gave him. danny enters, still shaken up. mac asks him why he's not at home like he told him to do. danny tells him that he can't go home, cos he won't hear ruben's laughter anymore, etc. along with hawkes, they conclude that the shot had to have come from inside the bodega. hawkes goes back to the bodega & finds a gun there. it's been fired by the sister, who tried to hit the robber after he knocked her brother out. mac brings the sister of the vic into the morgue, shows her ruben (still on the gurney) and tells her that he was shot by her gun. at the end of the episode, danny is at the same church he & ruben had gone to for the bike blessing & ruben's mom is seated in a pew. he walks up & sits down in the pew behind her. he wants to say something to her, but he can't bring himself to do so. instead, he just puts his hand on the back of her pew. but you get the feeling that she knows he's there & that she knows he's sorry for what happened when he was supposed to be watching her son.

i thought the chemistry b/t carmine (danny) & the woman who played ruben's mom was great. they both made you believe that they had lost someone they both loved very much. the hurt in their faces was so real when they were standing face-to-face in the hallway of their apartment building. and the way she referred to him by his last name was cute. it's almost as if they go waaay back & are actually friends. :) while some people like to think that it was just "great acting" on carmine's part, i think he's great with kids. it's refreshing to watch him interact with children on the show. i thought he was wonderful with the lil girl on "boo", but i think he was exceptional with the lil boy who played ruben in "child's play". some men just have that charm, ya know? they can interact with children very natrually.
it's a shame he doesn't have any kids of his own. :(
oh wait! he just hasn't met me yet...hahahahaha...i'd have his baby!!!

i'm also glad danny & lindsay didn't have some kinda fluff moment. i think it would have taken away from the "strong danny" we all know & love. he needed to be alone during that time, much like he needed to be alone during louie's uncertain moments. i just wish he and flack had had a moment together. ya know, for those "flesser" fans. (i can dig it) but they didn't & i guess we'll just have to live with it.

maybe next episode...
